What is Motivating You to Lose Weight?
In the long journey to successful weight loss, it takes more than discipline and perseverance to keep you focused on your goal. Somewhere along the way, you begin to lose enthusiasm and your will to carry on fades. Some people lose track and drift away from their weight loss regimen. For this reason, it is imperative to devise ways to keep yourself motivated and your drive to succeed on this journey intact. Occasional lapses are normal in humans. The important thing is to bounce back from the mistakes or errors in judgment and learn from those.
Make a habit of recording your food consumption and corresponding calorie intake. It will pretty much give you an idea if you are eating more than your body can afford to burn. Better yet, make a journal of your diet. You can include your emotions and how eating certain food makes you feel. Also, regularly jot down how much you weigh so that you will be able to see the progress that you have made. Seeing numerical values gives a solid proof that our efforts in dieting and exercising have paid off. You can always look back on this journal to see how far you have gone. It is good to be reminded of your personal victories in losing weight and to be reassured that you are on the right track.
Having people near and dear to you as your support group keeps you driven. They are the people who will cheer you on and sympathize with you during your lapses and dark days. They are the ones who give additional encouragement to diet properly and exercise more. Your support group need not to be your family, relatives, or workmates. They can be your gym buddies or the people you meet in an online group for weight loss.
The reward system is not new. People have been exposed to this ever since the toddler stage and it is almost always effective. Rewarding yourself with extravagant gifts and expensive travels is like bribing one’s self to reach the goal because of the great things that come with it. Things like these can unfailingly set your eyes on the target. Make a commitment to splurge on a much coveted reward only if you are able to lose a certain amount of weight in a specific amount of period. Set aside vacation plans and use them as personal inspirations to shed pounds. It is important that these rewards be non-edible in order to discourage binging and to realize than food is not the ultimate prize in life.
